Show Notes

My New Book

Most nights, my youngest son and I read our own books side by side in bed. Last night, I picked up Winning the Loser’s Game.

Charley Ellis’s book had an enormous influence on my career. Charley also read the manuscript for The Perfect Portfolio multiple times and gave me thoughtful feedback along the way—which remains one of the great honors of my professional life.

As I reread his classic, I kept thinking about what has changed and what hasn’t.

Diversification still works. Costs still matter. Investor behavior still determines a huge portion of the outcome. The core lessons from classics like Winning the Loser’s Game, A Random Walk Down Wall Street, and The Intelligent Investor remain as important as ever.

But the investing landscape has changed dramatically.

We have better data. Better technology. Better investment vehicles. More tax-aware tools. And, in some cases, far more complexity than investors actually need.

That’s why I wrote The Perfect Portfolio.

I wanted to bring the timeless principles of successful investing into today’s world—without burying readers in unnecessary details. The goal was to create a clear framework for deciding what belongs in your portfolio, when a change is justified, and when the best decision is to leave things alone.

This is my 20th year in the profession. What I bring to the conversation is two decades of sitting across from real people and helping them make these decisions when markets, taxes, family, and emotions all collide.

A few hundred advance copies went out last week. The early feedback has given me some comfort that the book will really help people.

More specifically, people keep mentioning the clarity. It’s practical, relatively short, and written to be understood—not to sound clever.

Today, it’s officially available.

If you’ve been planning to read The Perfect Portfolio, today would be a very good day to buy it.

And to everyone who already has: thank you. I hope it helps you make better decisions with your money for a very long time.
